How far will you go for your ‘Happily Ever After’?

It has been eight years since the Nutcracker has defeated the Mouse King, and he is still a cursed doll. The Nutcracker’s one desire is to break the curse, allowing him to take his rightful place as King and make Marie his queen. But nothing has worked.

The Nutcracker grows more and more desperate as time runs out and Marie begins to move away from him. One day, he uncovers a dark secret about his kingdom and decides to use the knowledge to reverse the curse and claim his destiny. The Nutcracker will do anything to reach his goal and have Marie rule by his side. This will be his happily ever after.

But will it be Marie’s?

This story is a roughly 30,000 word novella.

The Nutcracker King Coming from Darkness is a continuation of the beloved tale, but not in the way you would expect. It is full of intrigue and dark twists, with a Nutcracker very different from the one that you know and love.

The story will suck you in and keep you reading until the very last word.

The writing is decent, but this morbid fairytale really wasn't for me. The Nutcracker's fixation on Marie results in his transition from apparent hero to villain pretty abruptly in this telling, and the whole plotline just seemed off. I was not familiar with the original story of the nutcracker and the mouse king, which made this tale even stranger.

The Nutcracker King Coming From Darkness #1 eBook Eustacia Tan Reviews

I generally love dark adaptations on well-known fairy tales and folk tales (having written a few myself) and this one was no exception. The story’s progression into morbidity was so abrupt that I was completely thrown off-guard, especially after the descriptions of chocolate rivers and candy apples and marzipan castles.

The Nutcracker was quite… nutty (pun intended). I couldn’t really see his gradual descent into madness – from how quickly he justified his actions (i.e. murder) it seems like he had been crazy and delusional since the very beginning. However, I don’t see how Marie wouldn’t have noticed it in the eight years they had been together.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story thoroughly, and couldn’t put the book down because of how gripping it was. Can’t wait for the sequel!
I personally feel that you can't read this without reading/watching The Nutcracker. I've read a romantic retelling of The Nutcracker by Jessica Clare so I had some background but honestly I was a little confused in the beginning.

The story started off quite slow in the beginning but gained momentum after the first half of the book. The last half of the book was very well- written.

The darkness and twisted - ness of X was really well - portrayed and well - written. I could feel him descending into madness and desperation. The second half was really my favourite portion of the book. The world was really brought to life there.

The first portion of The Nutcracker felt almost disconnected from the second half. Maybe that's because I was trying to recall what I've read from the retelling. There wasn't any signs of X's unravelling, it was as if he just turned crazy. Or rather, I couldn't really tell his motivations in the beginning and the sudden introduction of some significant plot element caught me off guard. And X's reaction to it was very out of character from what I've read of him.

And certain scenes seem to be out of place in the book.

But the second half more than made up for the first. It was paced quickly and so dark. I loved it! I felt it ended too quickly, the book was approaching its "peak" and then it ended. Please don't keep me hanging. I really wished it was a full novel so I could read more of the world!
This is not a fairy tale we are used to - dark, violent and deranged would be good words to describe this adaptation of The Nutcracker. Don't be fooled by the innocuous starting; Eustacia will make your heart clench by the end with her engaging style. The story also ends on a cliffhanger and you will be wanting more.

I will recommend for readers to read the original tale before going to this story or you will, like me, get confused by the number of characters appearing here.
So, I saw the cover and the title of this novel and was SO excited to read this book. If there's a story that I love and cherish deeply, it's the Nutcracker. I grew up with this fairy tale - and it's something that my Mother and I would go see often. So when I had the chance to read this novel from the author herself, I was even more excited. Needless to say, my excitement was not for naught. This was a very interesting version. I will say the first part of the novel was a bit ... off? But the second, was just fantastic. I was glued to the pages. Some things seemed a bit misplaced, or some things kind of seemed out of character. X was very complex. But the second part - I'm ready for more of that!

I think this book has great potential - and I can't wait to see what the series brings in the coming books. I recommend this to anyone who loves the Nutcracker and Fairy Tales.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was not a sweet little Christmas story. Instead, it was a deliciously dark and evil tale It has been 8 years since the Nutcracker killed the Mouse King, but he remains a nutcracker and not a man. He decides that he is running out of time and will loose Marie if he doesn't break the spell soon. Thus begins his decent into madness. I do not know if his sudden decent began because of his fear of loosing Marie, but I suspect that the seeds of depravity were there all along and were triggered by his fear of loosing her. This story had an alternating POV that actually made it easy to understand the story. The story line flowed well and was easy to follow. The end of Part 1 is a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to read Part 2.
I was just curious and got the book to read. it sat in my kindle for awhile and finally i got a chance to read it one night. It was quickly interesting with romance and a little dark twist, i found myself unable to put it down! i only had to put it down to go to bed if not i wouldn't been able to wake up for work the next day. So the next night, i finished reading it in 2 sittings because i just had to know the ending! It is an easy one with a touch of fantasy and magic, i love it! Can't wait to get and read the next book to know what happened next.
This is a beautiful tragedy based on one of my favorite tales. It has quickly become one of my favorite s and I look forward to reading more of the series to find out how it ends
